Job Description

McKinley is looking for an Area Manager to join our residential team based in Taylor, MI!

In this role, you will be responsible for leading a group of Community Managers over approximately 1,500 third-party, professionally managed units (5 communities). You will spend the majority of your time at the front lines of the business, on-site at our apartment communities, walking our product, evaluating performance, and identifying opportunities for growth.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure our residents are well cared for. Helping someone with their home is a tremendous responsibility. Customer service is first and foremost for any member of our team.
  • Ensure our community-based teams are treated well and have a clear path to success. You must gain trust and motivate teams while objectively holding them accountable for excellence.
  • Maintain clean and well cared for properties. This includes the grounds, landscaping, hallways, dumpster areas and everything in between.
  • Clearly communicate expectations to your team and motivate team members to succeed.
  • Evaluate performance of your own team objectively and critically.
  • Deliver high quality written and verbal feedback in a constructive, honest and direct way.
  • Achieve financial goals for Net Operating Income objectives.
  • Manage vendor relationships through negotiation of contracts and ensuring results meet our standards of quality.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Mastery across all operational topics: sales, renewals, work orders, turns, revenue growth, expense management and collections. With the ability to hold others accountable to your high standards in the areas.
  • Very organized and have a high degree of follow through; there can be no slack in the execution of objectives.
  • Strong leadership skills including hiring, issuing feedback, setting expectations, and terminating when necessary.
  • Leads by example through customer service. We are looking for someone who is truly excited to deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Takes direction and feedback very well, craves learning opportunities and personal development.
  • Experience with site based section 8 and/or HUD contracted communities is a plus
  • Demonstrates a very clear understanding of expectations for product excellence.
  • Ability to think outside of the box and solve complex problems with creative solutions.
